Scoring / criteria / results

TOEFL iBT score interpretation

ETS says the updated TOEFL iBT reports four section scores and an overall score on a 1-6 scale. During the transition period after January 2026, ETS also provides comparable overall score information on the 0-120 scale.

Section scores

Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking each receive scores on the updated scale.

Overall score

The overall score is based on the average of the four section scores and rounded according to ETS guidance.

Score transition

ETS describes a two-year transition period with comparable overall 0-120 score information.
